My grandmother spent her childhood and youth between Iowa and Minnesota, in farms, cities, and a small village that now has 122 inhabitants. With my fear of her passing away, and after hearing that her traveling days are over, I decided to document her memories and the songs she often sings. These two elements become my coordinates for exploring the places where she grew up but can no longer return to.
Her lyrics talk about love, war, sadness, and the human experience. The music reconstructs her story and creates a connection to these spaces that are unknown yet familiar to me.
Even though the songs are from the past, they find meaning in the present. The coincidences between reality and music transform into images; this relationship gives the titles to the photographs.
